Created during the Covid lockdowns, the Beauty and Decay series emerged from a desire to explore the many forms beauty can take throughout the natural cycle of life. Through the pairing of flowers and animal skulls, these images examine the tension and harmony between life and death, fragility and permanence, growth and decay.
This vertical composition features a muskrat skull resting on a bed of soft pink delphinium blossoms against a deep black background. The weathered texture and stark structure of the skull stand in direct contrast to the delicate petals and flowing forms of the flowers. Yet rather than competing, the elements blend together to create a sense of balance and unity.
