Raven Skull, Daisies, and Candle Still Life
A few years ago, I began a still life photography project exploring the contrast between beauty and mortality through the pairing of flowers and animal skulls. The resulting Beauty and Decay series examines themes of transformation, impermanence, and the unexpected harmony that can exist between seemingly opposing elements.
This photograph is one of my favorite images from the series. It features a painted raven skull resting on a dark platform alongside a bouquet of rich purple daisies. In the background, a yellow wax candle burns softly within a vintage-style candle holder, adding warmth and atmosphere to the composition. The combination of vibrant flowers, weathered bone, and flickering candlelight creates a timeless still life that feels both elegant and contemplative.
